Harold & Iowa – BFFs!

Harold is Ginger & White, Iowa is Tricolor (Calico)

Harold and Iowa are an inseparable duo of sibling cats with a bond that’s as close as it gets. Their story began when their mama was abandoned in a colony. She had been someone’s pet before being left outside, and unknown to the rescuers, she was pregnant at the time. After giving birth to five kittens, she hid them under a storage container. When they were discovered, the whole family was rescued and brought into a loving foster home.

Harold and Iowa were raised together in a multi-cat household and now share a foster home, where they’ve grown into affectionate, easygoing cats. While they get along well with each other, it’s unclear how they would interact with other cats. They’re not shy around new people in their home but can be a little reserved in unfamiliar surroundings. Once they settle in, they quickly relax and enjoy spending time with their humans.

These two have similar personalities and enjoy being part of the action. They love curling up on laps or beside their people on the sofa, especially while watching TV. Although they enjoy following their humans around, they’re also independent enough to entertain themselves. They make perfect work-from-home companions, often napping on desks or in laps while their humans work. Their playful nature means they’ll happily chase each other around the house, but once they tire out, they’re content to relax as couch potatoes.

Harold and Iowa are both curious and love exploring, although they are cautious, especially around loud noises like vacuums. While they don’t like being picked up, they tolerate short periods of being held, and they are absolute lap cats. Iowa is a little sassier and more independent than Harold, often the first to explore new things or engage with new people. Harold, on the other hand, sometimes looks to Iowa for confidence. Iowa does have a tendency to nip when she’s overstimulated, though it’s never been hard enough to break the skin, and she’s never shown aggression towards adults. It’s worth noting that younger children might find her occasional nip disconcerting.

As they’ve gotten older, their energy levels have decreased, but they’re still playful and enjoy chasing each other, often crashing into a heap of fur in the process. Harold and Iowa have a fascination with water and have been known to play in the shower while it’s running or bat at the kitchen faucet. Iowa even named herself when she stepped on her foster mom’s mobile keypad and accidentally typed "IowA."

These siblings have always been together, encouraging and supporting each other through all their adventures, whether innocent or mischievous. They would thrive in a family that can provide them with the space to explore, play, and enjoy each other’s company. They’re best suited for a home with older children (8+) who can respect their boundaries.
